Reference & Instruction

About the Reference and Instruction Department

Reference and Instruction librarians support the college's mission to provide "opportunities for diverse learners to achieve their educational and professional goals, thereby enriching the social, cultural, and economic environment of our region and the global community."

Toward this mission our daily activities include providing instruction, based on Information Literacy Outcomes, to learners in a variety of formats and venues, including one-on-one service at the reference desk, 24/7 Ask-a-Librarian services, and personalized instruction in both classroom and virtual environments. Librarians also create and maintain a variety of active learning-based resources on the library website, including Class Guides, How-To pages, instructional videos, and IRIS: The Information Literacy Tutorials.

Reference & Instruction Department goals:

  1. Contribute to learners’ academic and lifelong success by teaching innovatively and collaboratively, anytime, anywhere.
  2. Provide quality point-of-need instruction-focused reference services, face-to-face and virtually.
  3. Provide activities and share information about resources, including tools, techniques, and emerging technologies to the College Community
  4. Promote assessment of information literacy outcomes at Clark College.
  5. Provide, up-to-date, relevant resources in a variety of formats.
